Home to the Killarney Kites, who famously won the league of Ireland First Division in 1956,1957 before coming second the following year and have since languished in the lower reaches of the Kerry league structure. The stadium remains one of the largest regional soccer stadium in the country and once saw 12000+ regularly filter through the gates on a winters night, even once causing the temporary postponement of a league match with Drumcondra FC in 1960 which saw thousands of spectators flood onto the pitch only an hour into the game, with the Kites skipper at the time, Conal MacCarthaigh receiving treatment for a broken arm as a result. Kites fans in recent times attribute this to their disappointing league finish in the same season as MacCarthaigh was sidelined for nearly half of it.

In recent times crowds remain strong despite the teams poor run of form of late,and a return to the top tier of Irish soccer remains a reality in the eyes of their patient supporters. Killarney Kites jerseys are still readily available in local sports stores ensuring the yellow and black striped 'ringroaders" as they are nicknamed, remain still in the public thought.
