Four stands surround the ground, which is built on a natural amphitheatre. Thus the pitch is below street level and fans entering at the Vicarage Road end have to walk down to their seats. The oldest stand is on the East side. It is known as the Main Stand and primarily consists of two parts - the original 1922 stand and a 1969 extension. Together with siome uncovered seats capacity on this side of the ground was around 5,500 but since 2005 this ahs been reduced for safety reasons with much of the older structure closed. Design and planning is being done for a new replacement, which will also be part of the planned Watford Health Campus that features regeneration of the adjacent Watford General Hospital and Cardiff Road Industry. Opposite is teh Rous Stand, named after Sir Stanley Rous, FIFA President and Watford Vice President It was built in 1986 and extended in 1993. It replaces the previous 'Shrodells' Stand named after the hospital, which is on this side of the ground. The Shrodells was built in the 1930s and extended in 1979. Originally the Union Stand from the club's old Cassio Road ground stood on this side. There are lounges and executive boxes in the Rous Stand. To the south of the ground is the Rookery Stand built in 1994. This end of the ground is the traditional home fans' end and originally was a cinder bank. As late as the 1970s blackberry bushes grew on the ash terracing! The Rookery End Stand contains 6960 seats. At the north end of the ground is the 1993 Vicarage Road Stand. It was used for home fans for a while before they were returned to the Rookery for the start of the 1999/2000 Premiership season. It holds 6,800 fans. The ground is also first XV playing home to Saracens RFC, who retain adminsitrative and other facilities in Southgate. For many years until the 1970s, there was a greyhound track around the perimeter of the pitch.

Bar:
Immediately outside, on Vicarage Rd is the Red Lion - a favourite haunt of players (and managers) up until the 1960s. This is for home fans only. Away fans can go to Mac's Bar in nearby Fearnley St. In the twon centre the Watford-based Wetherspoon's chain have the football friendly Moon under the Water. Other popular pubs on match days include The Horns, Estcourt tavern, Estcourt Arms, Wellington and members-only West Herts Club, which overlooks the club's old Cassio Rd ground.
Via Fans:
Away fans are situated in the Vicarage Road End (behind the goal). There are normally given half of the stand but for cup matches all of it. The max capacity is 5,800 but due to safety reasons about 5,000.
