Donnington Park is one of the UK's premier event venues which is used for both motorsport events, conferences and music concerts and is owned by Tom Wheatcroft whi is a millionaire motorsport fanatic.
The Donnington Park Circuit hosted its first Grand Prix event in 1937, although the circuit was officially opened in 1931 although there were no racing surfaces for the first two years, grass and paths in the former country park were used for racing.
Donnington Park underwent major renovation in 1977 when it became the National Circuit. In 1993 the circuit was used as the Formula 1 Grand Prix Circiut as the European Leg of the tour. The race was sponsored by Sega. So, a huge ballon and billboards featuring the company mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, were around Donington Park. Brazilian, Ayrton Senna was the race winner, Senna was awarded is a statue of Sonic holding a golden trophy. There is also a Ayrton Senna memorial within the complex.
Donnington Park is now used for Superbikes, Touring Cars and Formula 3 events
There is also a museum of Donnington Park and motor sports at the complex which boasts the largest collection of Grand Prix cars in the world.
